Role: ProDUCT DESIGN Lead | Timeline: 6 weeks, JULY-SEPTEMBER 2018 | Platform: iOS mobile app
Overview
About Allo
Allo is a family-centered social networking app that connects friends and neighbors to make exchanging favors simple.
CHALLENGE
Allo approached our team to help explore options for new features, improve the overall experience of the existing product, and increase general engagement within the platform.
MY ROLE
As the project lead, I managed a team of designers to work on the iOS app, and collaborated with the founder/sole designer of Allo. My key responsibilities included defining the project’s scope, methods, and goals based on both business and user needs, checking in and communicating directly with our client, and leading brainstorming sessions and weekly design sprints.

Results
Over the course of this six week engagement, we provided our client with: redefined flows that improved the onboarding / first time user experience, effective options for four new app features, and other ways to decrease friction and create more value for users.
Process
The short timeline for our large project scope required us to work cross-functionally and extremely collaboratively. I implemented Lean UX methods to accommodate our rapid and iterative design sprints, along with facilitating sprint planning, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups to ensure we were on track for success.
Lean UX
Outcomes
Onboarding: Social Login
By nudging users to use social login, users can get into the app quicker. A quick redesign of form hierarchy spread out the remaining profile building process.
Onboarding: Requests & Offers
By dedicating screens for requests and offers, an important step of profile-building is highlighted.
Primary Navigation
By improving navigation to the user’s in-app “Village” (a contact list essential for a social network), we were also able to add new features.
Postings
Our reformatting of the existing post form emphasized informational hierarchy and increased legibility. We also allowed users to add members of their family at this stage instead of during onboarding.
Activity Feed
Introduced a toggle feed view, broke up live ‘Postings’ with Village Activity’, moved some things around.

NEXT STEPS
With the project completed, our team provided some recommendations for future iterations and directions for our client to consider as Allo continues to grow and build a passionate user base.
Update 04/2019: Since the end of our work together, some of our designs have been implemented within the app and are live! Find Allo in the App Store here!
Reflection
This was my first time leading a large team of designers while also working alongside a client that had a live product and competitive goals. It was an absolute learning experience in how to communicate clearly and effectively with stakeholders, while managing the expectations of the client, my team, and myself.
